Member of the Armed Forces, came together with Debenhams of Bath at a recent fund raising fashion show, held in Bath’s beautiful Assembly Rooms.
The evening was filled with fun and fashion as the volunteer models showed off some of Debenhams wonderful new range of clothes, helped along by their fellow military models from the nearby Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton, resplendent in full uniform. The servicemen really brought an element of laughter and fun to the evening by entering into the spirit of the event as only our armed forces can!
The event was being held to raise money and awareness for three very deserving charities; Help 4 Heroes and the Royal Naval and Royal Marines Charity as well as our own locally based Quartet Community Foundation. Many of the servicemen on the catwalk had recently returned from Afghanistan and also other troubled areas of the world.
Both service charities look after our injured servicemen and women serving overseas in places like Afghanistan and give massive support to their families for as long as is needed. Locally based Quartet award grants to many of our local community groups including some of the local Cadet Force groups, one of which, 2282 Somer Squadron of the Air Training Corps were on hand during the evening to help with the raffle.
Bath Rugby also provided five of their players who helped local MP Don Foster with the auction, two of them, Nick Scott and Jaques Boussuge actually taking over the auction from Don in order to raise the amount of money being offered from the very generous audience.
The show, which raised in the region of £5k for the charities, was the brainchild of Elizabeth Everitt who is the Chair of Ambassadors for Quartet and Cllr Francine Haeberling, Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, both of whom wanted to bring the charities to the fore.
Liz Everitt said: “The whole evening was absolutely stunning and it was wonderful to see all the servicemen in uniform. It really brought it home to the audience what a tremendous job they do as well as their sense of fun - they put everything into the evening. Debenhams too, have been fantastic in their support and I am so glad we were able to raise a substantial amount of money for them all. The generosity of the local shops and the audience on the night was amazing. We can’t thank them enough for their support”.
The event was organised by Julie Cooper from local event company FAB!
